Antidepressants ‘causing falls’ in elderly patients.
A study of antidepressant medications shows patients with dementia may suffer from falls.
Depression drugs known as selective serotonin uptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which are often prescribed to elderly patients with dementia may cause side effects such as dizziness and unsteadiness, and make more vulnerable patients collapse.
In answer to these findings, the Alzheimer's Society has called for more research into alternative treatments.
